How to pick a drawing for a particular child

The useful measure is not the subject but how many separate areas a drawing has, and every page shows its own count near the top. Under about fifteen suits a three-year-old: few enough that the picture gets finished while they still care about it. Thirty to sixty suits five and up, where the extra areas are the point rather than an obstacle. A child who abandons drawings halfway is almost always being given pages with too many shapes, not the wrong subject.
