The baubles are the part children go to first and the part worth rationing, because there are enough of them to keep a child busy long after the tree itself is green. The presents are three separate blocks with ribbons crossing them, which gives somewhere to put a bright color once the tree is done. Green is the obvious answer for the tree and worth resisting for one turn: a tree in three shades of the same green, darkest at the bottom, looks considerably more like a real tree than one flat color does, and it takes no more skill.
