A garbage truck seen from the side, built from a few large plain blocks: a cab, a big container body, and four round wheels. It is deliberately one of the plainest drawings on the site, and that is the point. Bin lorries fascinate small children more than almost any other vehicle, largely because they arrive on a schedule and make a great deal of noise, and a child who loves them does not need the drawing to be clever. The container body is the largest single area we publish in this category and fills in seconds. The wheels have separated hubs, which are the only small shapes and the natural thing to save for last. Green and blue are the usual real colors and worth mentioning, since recycling trucks are often deliberately different from refuse ones. Printed at A4 the truck fills the width of the sheet with a clean margin, and on ordinary paper crayon and pencil both behave across an area that size.

Did you know?

• A modern refuse truck compresses what it collects to roughly a quarter of its original volume, which is why one vehicle can service a whole street before needing to empty.
• Collection routes are planned to avoid left turns wherever possible, because turning across traffic costs time and fuel and carries a higher accident rate. The same logic is used by parcel delivery fleets.
